The wheel sets are then moved through to an assembly line for building up. The mass of the wheelset means that it takes a long time to cool down. To speed up the cooling process we designed and installed production lines to index wheelsets past a series of fans. When a wheelset arrived in an empty space a sensor turn on the appropriate fans. The design is simple but effective with sections of rail being raised to roll the wheelsets forward and being halted by the end of the next section. To stop the impact bruising the wheelset we installed a soft stop braking mechanism. The system is fully guarded.
