Battery Rail Grinder
The DPMS switch and crossing grinder has been designed to carry out a variety of different grinding operations on track. The grinding machine can be used in two configurations to remove rail defects such as field and gauge side lipping, for corrugation removal, rail head profiling and head defects.

About the Project
The grinder is battery powered (48v DC) and is modular in its design. The two grinding heads are detachable as is the battery pack to reduce weight when manual handling. The chassis weighs 78kg, the grinding heads 28 & 30kg (depending upon type) and the battery control unit (BCU) 108kg. This BCU ca be offered in a modular format to reduce lifting weights. The grinding heads are stored in individual cases as is the BCU. The frame in transportation mode has a balanced centre of gravity and is carried by 4 operators. Combined weight of the machine is 214kg (Profiling Head) or 216kg (Lipping Head). The weight of this unit is being reduced in an ongoing development program
This unit is compliant with the following standards:
- RIS1701 PLT
- BS EN13977:2011
- Machinery Directive 2006 42 EC
- S1173 On Track Plant
- EN 61000-6-4 inc. A1:2011
- EN 61000-6-2:2005
This small machine is portable, simple to use and transport and easy to get on and off track. A huge saving on a grinding train system. We are happy to demonstrate.
